MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- 3D gamer The Multiverse Network announced that it has raised $4.175 million in new funding, its first institutional financing round.

Multiverse is developing a platform that allows developers to more easily build 3D virtual worlds and Massively Multiplayer Online Game applications.  The company says that more than 150 development teams have begun building projects on the platform.

Sterling Stamos Capital Management led the round, which included several angel investors.  The company plans to use the proceeds to hire additional staff, complete its version 1.0 of the platform and launch its network of consumer games and virtual worlds.
